The Big Soap Quiz 2023 crowns winner as Emmerdale and Coronation Street face off

The Big Soap Quiz 2023 has crowned its winner, with the Coronation Street team prevailing over their Emmerdale counterparts in a hotly-contested battle

The show sees stars from the respective ITV soaps answer a series of questions as they seek bragging rights, with host (and newly-announced Dancing on Ice co-presenter) Stephen Mulhern presiding over the action.

This year’s edition saw Jack P Shepherd (aka David Platt) captain the Corrie team, with the actor being joined by Channique Sterling-Brown (aka Dee Dee Bailey) and Tony Maudsley (aka George Shuttleworth).

Their opponents on the Emmerdale team were captain Mark Charnock (aka Marlon Dingle), with the star being supported by Natalie Ann Jamieson (aka Amy Wyatt) and Kevin Mathurin (aka Charles Anderson).

After a host of rounds, which included general questions on each respective soap and historical karaoke, the scores were tied, requiring the use of a tiebreaker.

The question required the teams to guess how many National Soap Awards had been gathered by the two soaps combined, with Corrie getting closer to the mark of 169.

The latest triumph for Corrie brings the overall score to five apiece, with Shepherd looking delighted as he held the trophy aloft: "I'm really happy because I did win it [with the tie-break guess]," he remarked.

The episode saw responses from fans on social media, with one viewer writing on X: "I'm loving the big soap quiz please can we have more singing rounds #BigSoapQuiz #Corrie #Emmerdale x"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
