Billy Ray Cyrus files for divorce from Firerose after 7 months of marriage, also seeks annulment

The country star is citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct as the reasons for the split.

Billy Ray Cyrus is ending his marriage to Firerose after less than a year.

The "Achy Breaky Heart" crooner filed for divorce from the Australian singer, whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges, in Nashville on May 22, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.  Cyrus, 62, is reportedly citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct as the reasons for the split, and he is also seeking an outright annulment of the marriage on the grounds of fraud. TMZ first reported the news.

Representatives for Cyrus and Firerose, 37, didn't immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment Tuesday. 

Cyrus and Firerose took their relationship public in 2022, months after Billy Ray split from his ex-wife Tish Cyrus. During a joint appearance on Live With Kelly and Ryan, Firerose revealed that they first met a decade prior, on the set of Miley Cyrus' Disney Channel series Hannah Montana.

"Billy Ray's been a phenomenal supporter of my music ever since," Firerose said. "He's just really believed in me, and continued to tell me to pursue my dreams no matter what."

Over the course of their relationship, the musicians collaborated on four songs: "New Day," "Time," "Plans," and "After the Storm." They tied the knot last October, after a yearlong engagement.

"10/10/23 will always be the beautiful, joyous day that our two souls united as one in holy matrimony," they wrote on Instagram the time. "It was the most perfect, ethereal celebration of love we could have ever imagined."

The couple continued: "For both of us to hear the preacher say, 'Billy Ray and Firerose Cyrus… I now pronounce you husband and wife' that was the sacred moment our new forever began. Long Live Love!"

Firerose marked their six-month wedding anniversary on social media in April, sharing throwback photos of the couple embracing on their big day. "[Six] months ago I married this man," she wrote. "Life isn't always easy… but it sure helps when your husband's also your best friend. Thank you Lord!"

Billy Ray shares five children with ex-wife Tish, including singers Noah and Miley. He wed Tish in 1993, after a previous marriage to Cindy Smith, from 1986 to 1991. He also shares son Christopher Cody with Kristen Luckey.
