Black Mirror season 6 episode 4 spoilers follow.

Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker has responded to a fan theory connecting one episode of season 6 to the Twilight saga.

A moment in 'Mazey Day' seems to look back on an iconic scene included in 2008's Twilight, the first film in the franchise inspired by the book series by Stephenie Meyer and directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

In the Black Mirror episode, troubled starlet Mazey Day (Clara Rugaard) is doing her best to deal with invasive paparazzi, whilst also coming to terms with the consequences of a hit-and-run incident.

In a wild turn of events, it is revealed that Mazey is a werewolf. Given the episode's main song is 'Supermassive Black Hole' by Muse, it didn't take long for Twilight fans to connect the dots.

"Somebody pointed [the link] out to me," he told NME. "They asked me if it was winking at [Mazey's fate], which it wasn't necessarily…"

"The wink was something that, if it happened, it happened very subconsciously for all of us," added executive producer Jessica Rhoades. "And so now we kind of love that the wink is in there."

The song was notably used in the baseball scene in Twilight, seeing Robert Pattinson's Edward introducing Kristen Stewart's Bella to a Cullen family tradition: thunder baseball.

Though werewolves aren't present in the scene in question, they obviously are a huge part of Twilight's bigger picture, with Taylor Lautner's character Jacob and his pack becoming crucial in subsequent instalments. Since Mazey turns out to be a werewolf, some viewers were convinced the Muse track foreshadowed the big reveal.

Black Mirror streams on Netflix.
