Michael Stuhlbarg, the actor best known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire and Call Me By Your Name, was struck in the back of the neck with a rock in New York on Sunday evening.

Stuhlbarg, 55, was walking near Central Park at around 7:45 p.m. when the suspected attacker, a transient named Xavier Israel, threw a rock and struck him in the back of his neck, causing an abrasion, the NYPD confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. The actor chased Israel, 27, to the front of the Russian Consulate on East 91st Street, where officers took Israel into custody without incident.

Stuhlbarg declined medical attention at the scene.

A rep for the actor didn't immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor is best known for his role as crime boss Arnold Rothstein in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Other notable credits include Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, TV series Fargo, and miniseries Dopesick, for which he earned his second Emmy nomination.

Amidst an alarming rise of men randomly punching women in the face in the city, TV personality Bethenny Frankel also recently revealed that she was struck by a transient while apartment hunting, calling New York "insane" in a TikTok video shared last week. Comedian Chris Redd was also recently attacked outside of a Manhattan comedy club in 2022.
