Bondi Junction stabbings: Who were the victims of the Australia knife attack?
The lone attacker who stabbed six people to death in a busy Sydney shopping mall and injured more than a dozen others targeted women, police said on Monday.
Police shot and killed 40-year-old Joel Cauchi during his knife attack in the Westfield Bondi Junction mall on Saturday near world-famous Bondi Beach.
Cauchi stabbed five women and a man to death during his rampage, with most of the twelve who survived their injuries also being women.
The victims have been named as:
Yixuan Cheng
Victim Yixuan Cheng, 25, was studying for a master's degree in economics at the University of Sydney, according to reports.
Ms Cheng's fiance in China, named as Mr Wang, told a Chinese publication he had spoken to her moments before the attack on Saturday, where she had been trying on clothes.
“She even tried on clothes for me to see," he said, adding that she had sent him a photo of her with a handbag earlier that afternoon.
Jade Young
Sydney architect Jade Young was confirmed as a victim of the attack on Sunday by New South Wales Police.
The 47-year-old was a member of Bronte Surf Life Saving Club, which issued a statement cancelling an event after Ms Young’s death.
It said in a statement: “This is and will be a difficult time for the community, and we encourage you to seek support from family, friends, fellow club members or to speak to your GP to assist you in processing this tragedy.
“We are here to support the community, and our heartfelt condolences go out to everyone affected.”
Ashlee Good
New mother Ashlee Good, 38, passed her nine-month-old baby to other shoppers as she came under attack, leaving her badly injured.
In a statement, Good’s family confirmed that the baby was “doing well” after hours of surgery.
She was remembered by relatives as “a beautiful mother, daughter, sister, partner, friend, all-round outstanding human, and so much more.”
Dawn Singleton
Dawn Singleton, 25, was soon to be married, and was the daughter of prominent businessman John Singleton and lawyer Julie Martin.
She worked as an e-commerce assistant at a fashion label, called the White Fox, which paid tribute to her as a “sweet, kind-hearted person who had her whole life ahead of her”.
Her cousin, Jade O’Connor, said in a social media post that Dawn “lit up every room” she walked into, adding: “Dawn, I should be writing your wedding speech [but] instead I sit here sobbing coming to terms with how life isn’t fair that you are no longer here.”
Pikria Darchia
Pikria Darchia, 55, described herself as an artist on her LinkedIn profile, which stated she worked in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi from 2003 to 2013 as a designer.
She then spent three years studying at Sydney's City East Community College in Bondi Junction in 2013.
She also studied business administration at education and training provider TAFE NSW.
Faraz Tahir
Faraz Tahir worked as a security guard at the shopping centre, and was the sole male victim who was fatally stabbed in the attack.
He was described by the Australian Pakistani National Association as "courageous" on social media.
"Let us stand together in solidarity, offering support and prayers to those grieving and affected by this heartbreaking loss," the statement said.
