The Boogeyman confirms UK digital release date

Horror film The Boogeyman, directed by Rob Savage and based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, has confirmed a UK digital release date.

Starring Yellowjackets actress Sophie Thatcher and Obi-Wan Kenobi's Vivien Lyra Blair, the movie will be available on digital in the UK on August 29.

You'll be able to purchase it digitally in the UK via Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Sky Store.

With the digital version of the film, horror fans will be treated to a host of bonus features — including a behind-the-scenes look into Savage's vision for the film, where the cast and crew share how it was crafted.

While The Boogeyman was so scary it had to be re-edited, the digital release provides some comic relief in the form of another bonus feature: the film's outtakes.

The movie follows two sisters, Sadie (played by Thatcher) and Sawyer (played by Blair), and their father in the aftermath of their mother's death. Their therapist father (played by Chris Messina) is "reeling" from his wife's passing, and when "a desperate patient comes to their home, he leaves behind a terrifying entity that feeds on its victims' suffering".

Previously speaking to Digital Spy, Thatcher revealed that the film's terrifying script drew her to the project.

"The script was devastating. Sadie is just a really complicated, complex character. And she has such an incredible arc," she said.

"As an actor, that is immediately what drew me in. I feel like it translated really well to screen. You could feel that in the script, you could feel the terror.

"It's rare that you feel that when reading a lot of scripts and a lot of genre stuff, but also just knowing that this is Stephen King, and there's that trust within that."

The Boogeyman will be available on digital platforms, including Prime Video and Apple TV+, from August 29.
