SINGAPORE — Boon Heng Hainanese Chicken Rice, a food stall at Block 32 New Market Road, People's Park Food Centre in Chinatown, has been temporarily suspended for two weeks from 19 March to 1 April, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said on Tuesday (19 March).

The food stall had accumulated 12 demerit points over a 12-month period. Six demerit points were for preparing food on the floor of its premises, while the other six were for failing to keep the premises free of infestation.

It was also fined a total of $800 for two offences. The stall at People's Park Food Centre is run by the same operator that runs Boon Heng Atas Chicken Rice, which can also be found in the same hawker centre.

Boon Heng Atas Chicken Rice has other outlets in areas like Bedok and Yishun. It is known for selling $2.90 meals from 8am to 10am.

Food handlers, hygiene officers must re-attend Food Safety Course

Based on track records, a licensee who accumulates 12 or more demerit points within a 12-month period, may have its licence suspended for either two or four weeks, or cancelled, the SFA said.

"All food handlers would also be required to re-attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 1, before they can resume work," said the SFA.

The licensee is also required to ensure that all food hygiene officers working in the suspended premises re-attend and pass Level 3 of the Food Safety Course.

The agency said it "takes a serious view" of these offences, and reminded food operators to observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times, and to only engage registered food handlers.

Firm action will be taken against those found in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act, said SFA.

Members of the public are advised against patronising food establishments with poor hygiene practices. Feedback can be given via SFA's online feedback form, or by calling SFA's contact centre (6805-2871) with details for the agency to investigate.
