Boulies is back with its Master 2024 series of chairs. The 2024 update features an improved seat cushion, enhanced lumbar support, and new fabrics. For my testing, I requested the Master Max 2024 variant, which is aimed at taller and/or heavier individuals. After many weeks of 10-hour work-and-play sessions in the chair, it’s time for my review and verdict.

The 2024 upgrades

Both the Master and Master Max come equipped with an improved seat cushion. This boasts “enhanced contouring and padding,” which ultimately results in better comfort, especially over longer periods of sitting.

Good lumbar support is a must-have for me and Boulies’ implementation in the Master and Master Max is better than most. Not only is there an adjustable lumbar with various levels of assertion, but it can also be moved up and down, allowing users to fine-tune the placement for an overall comfortable and healthy sitting position.

Another must-have for me is fabric upholstery. With the Master and Master Max, Boulies is using its “Water Repellent Fabric 2.0,” which should lessen the impact of spillages and potential staining. While this is cool, I mostly opt for fabric as I prefer how cooling it is compared to leather.

For those who want leather, Boulies does offer “Ultraflex PU” as well as the more premium Nappa Leather. While I wouldn’t choose them due to how hot I get while working and gaming during the summer months, I’ll agree that the leather models do look great.

Easy does it

The build process is simple enough, and I managed to do it alone. However, if users can grab someone else to assist, then they’ll have an easier time maneuvering the heavier components into place.

Upon assembly, I must admit that I was very impressed by how good the Charcoal Grey version looks. It’s on par with Secretlab chairs that I’ve used in the past, which is a great thing considering the pricing. I’m also a fan of the other available color options. The new “Como” stands out as interesting and the Brown Ultraflex PU variant looks very classy.

Support where you need it

In use, the various support elements come into play. I’ve already mentioned the improved lumbar support, and it’s a definite highlight. However, the armrests are another winner with multi-directional movement allowing them to be placed just right.

I’m also a fan of the chair’s tilt function, which can go all the way to 165 degrees. This might seem excessive, but those looking to occasionally use the chair for a nap or a very relaxed movie-watching session will be thankful.

Final Verdict

Starting at $459.99 (£369.99 in the U.K.), the Boulies Master chairs are competitively priced when considering the features on offer. What’s more, with the Water Repellent Fabric 2.0 option, Boulies is offering one of the more uncommon upholstery choices which sets it apart from the sea of PU options out there.

For the price, and considering the regular discounts that are available, the Boulies Master earns my recommendation for those shopping for a stylish new gaming chair, with the Master Max deserving an additional nod for larger individuals looking for comfort on a chair that feels like it will last a long time.
