“The Boys ”showrunner announces series will end after fifth season, promises 'a gory, epic, moist climax'

The Boys will soon be putting their crime fighting days behind them.
On Tuesday, showrunner Eric Kripke announced on social media that the series will officially come to an end after its fifth season.
“#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” He wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

Alongside his announcement, Kripke shared a sneak peek of the script for the final episode of season 4 which, naturally, was almost entirely redacted. At the end, however, written in underlined print, it noted, “SEE YOU FOR OUR FINAL SEASON, MOTHERF---ERS!”
Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book of the same name, The Boys follows Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) as he leads a group of vigilante superheroes against a group of corrupt, corporate-sponsored supes called The Seven, which is headed by the egotistical Homelander (Antony Starr). The series, which spawned its own college spinoff Gen V last year, boasts a super cast that includes Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Karen Fukuhara, and more.
Kripke’s announcement comes just two days before the series' fourth season is set to drop on Prime Video. The showrunner previously told Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming installment will see its stars in a "tug of war" to get the young Ryan Butcher (Cameron Crovetti), now upgraded to a series regular, onto their side.

"I don't think the game's over yet. I think [Ryan] saw this one thing and I think we should all be afraid because if he becomes another Homelander, that's obviously really bad for the planet,” Kripke said. “But he's still Becca's kid and there's still a shot that Butcher can pull him into the light."
The Boys lands on Prime Video on June 13.
