Breakout Australian Sitcom ‘Colin From Accounts’ Season 2 Goes Into Production

Breakout Australia comedy Colin From Accounts is back in production.

An official green light of Season 2 of the hit Binge sitcom came in August, after writers and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer chose to down their pens in solidarity with WGA strike in the U.S. over the summer.

Exec producer Alison Hurbert-Burns from Binge told Deadline in October production would begin in “coming months,” adding: “As an Australian program it was outside of the strike, but they just felt it was the right thing to do.”

Brammall and Dyer finished the scripts once a deal was struck at the end of September. Production is now back underway across Sydney, with Easy Tiger Productions and CBS Studios returning the produce.

The show follows the lives of two flawed and funny people who begin an unconventional romance after being brought together when Ash (Dyer) spontaneously flashes her nipple at Gordon (Brammall), causing him to hit and injure a dog with his car.

SPOILER ALERT: Season 2 begins with Ash and Gordon living together and trying to get their beloved, disabled dog back from new owners. Hurbert-Burns said in the interview two months ago there would be “a journey to see how our heroes get reunited.”

Emma Harvie (Frayed, Diary of an Uber Driver), Genevieve Hegney (Young Rock, Doctor Doctor), Michael Logo (Love Me, Daryl in Why Are you Like This), Helen Thomson (Rake, Elvis), Darren Gilshenan (Dark City, A Moody Christmas), Annie Maynard (Upper Middle BoganPlaying for Keeps) and Tai Hara (Hyde and Seek, Home and Away) all return for season 2, with new cast members yet to be announced.

Brammall and Dyer said in a statement: “Season 1 went better than expected so here’s hoping we don’t mess this one up. We are thrilled to be back playing Ashley and Gordon running amok in the streets of Sydney. We are just sad we had to leave our actual dog in America. Doesn’t seem to be in the spirit of the show, but here we are.”

Executive producers Rob Gibson and Ian Collie of Easy Tiger Productions told Deadline work had been “moving at pace” to get the show back into production before the end of 2023, adding Season 1 had been going from “strength to strength” with the BBC in the UK and CBS Studios stablemate Paramount+ acquiring it to acclaim. It was also the most watched original comedy ever in Australia for the Foxtel Group, which owns commissioning streamer Binge.

“Thanks to our wonderful partners at Binge and CBS Studios, and the millions of Colin fans in Australia and around the world, for another joyous instalment with Harri, Patty and the Colin team,” added Gibson and Collie in a statement.

Hurbert-Burns, Executive Director of Binge and Commissioning & Content at Foxtel Group said: “Patrick and Harriet lead a hilarious cast and we are excited to see them return to our screens to find out what’s in store for these much-loved characters in season two.”

“We had so much fun shooting the first series and can’t wait for cameras to start rolling across Sydney, including the city’s Inner West.”

Season 1 was nominated for 10 AACTA Awards including Best Narrative Comedy Series, Best Acting in Comedy Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer along with first time nominee Helen Thomson, two nominations for Best Direction in Drama or Comedy, two nominations for Best Screenplay in Television, Best Editing and Best Casting in Television making it the most nominated comedy series this year and one of the most nominated shows.

Gibson, Collie, Brammall, Dyer, Trent O’Donnell, Hurbert-Burns and Lana Greenhalgh are executive producers for Season 1 and Kevin Greene is producing. O’Donnell returns as set-up director, with Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope taking the reins for three episodes and Madeleine Dyer returning to direct one.

The series distributed outside Australia and New Zealand by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
