When it comes to his Bridgerton character's future, Luke Thompson’s lips are sealed!

The actor, who plays the second eldest Bridgerton sibling, Benedict, in the hit Netflix series, said he doesn’t know what characters will take on a central role in season 4 — so both him and fans will “have to wait and see.”

While appearing on The View with Golda Rosheuvel on June 7, the costars had a playful response when questioned about who will be the focus of the series’ next season.

“How dare you ask me such personal questions?” Thompson, 35, joked as Rosheuvel, 54, said, “I’m just going to sip my tea."

But Thompson did have an “honest answer,” he later revealed. “I don’t know.”

"I know that it's so lovely [and] that one of the best things about a TV job is you get to really explore a character long-form like that and fill him in slowly,” he added. “So as long as I keep getting to do that.”

Should Benedict be the subject of the regency-era drama’s next season, the actor would be far from opposed, he said.

"Obviously, it would be great to dive in at one point,” he said. “But, we’ll have to wait and see!”

Just like the Julia Quinn novels the show is based on, each season of Bridgerton centers around a different member of the Bridgerton family — and, more specifically, their journey to love.

Thompson has played Benedict since season 1 of the hit drama, which told the story of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) finding love with the dreamy Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page).

Season 2 followed the fiery enemies-to-lovers tale of eldest brother, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), and the third and current season focuses on the burgeoning romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

The first two followed the books’ order, but the Netflix series switched things up for season 3 by following the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. The still-unadapted third book follows Benedict’s journey to finding a romantic partner.

Though a fourth season of the drama has been confirmed since April 2021, details about which characters will take center stage have been sparse — though Quinn recently confirmed to PEOPLE that she knows which Bridgerton sibling will take the helm of the next installment.

"I can't say a word," the author told PEOPLE at the season 3 premiere in New York City, adding, “I'll get in so much trouble.”
