Another source adds, "She genuinely just loves good music. She was curious about [Timberlake's] new tracks, and she really likes his new music."
"Britney has a good heart and is full of compliments when she likes something," continues the second insider. "She always speaks her mind. That’s what's so special about her."
On Instagram, Spears, 42, celebrated Timberlake’s lead single and his second new track “Sanctified,” which he debuted on Saturday Night Live over the weekend.
The "Toxic" singer, who split from the *NSYNC member in 2002, also said she's sorry to anyone she “offended” with her memoir, The Woman in Me, in the post.
"I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry…" she wrote alongside a clip of Timberlake, 42, performing a medley of his hits with The Roots on Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Spears continued, "I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song 'Selfish' 🌹 It is soo good and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard ??? Ps 'Sanctified' is wow 🤩 too."
In her autobiography, Spears details her past relationship with Timberlake, including revealing that she had an abortion after becoming pregnant with the singer’s baby because he “didn’t want to be a father.”
“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote of the pregnancy in her book. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."
"If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father,” she added.
She also wrote of her experience undergoing the abortion: “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life."
Spears' Instagram post comes after her 2011 track “Selfish” overtook Timberlake's song of the same name on iTunes following a push from her fans to support the 13-year-old track.
The song reached the No. 1 spot on the iTunes charts on Friday, while Timberlake’s single, which was released Thursday, sat at No. 3 as "Selfish by Britney Spears" trended on X (formerly Twitter).
Timberlake's "Selfish" and "Sanctified” feature on the father of two’s upcoming album, Everything I Thought It Was, which he will release on March 15.
