Brittany Cartwright Defends Her Son Cruz, 3, After Seeing Comments About His Well-Being: 'Enough Is Enough'

"It hurts Brittany to read comments about her son's well-being," a source tells PEOPLE

Brittany Cartwright is defending her son.

On Tuesday, May 28, the proud mom, 35, shared a statement on her Instagram Stories after seeing comments from followers about her 3-year-old son Cruz's well-being amidst her split from estranged husband Jax Taylor, 44.

"You guys can reel in the drama of my life I don't care but leave my innocents [sic] sons name out of it!!!" Cartwright wrote in her statement. "Dont act like you know anything about him watching 30 mins of a show recorded last summer."

"I do everything I possibly can for him so how dare some of you!? ENOUGH he is a perfect and innocent child and I will not have strangers acting like they know what's going on in his life," she continued. "Talk about me talk about his father I don't care but enough is enough!!!!!!"

A source tells PEOPLE that Cartwright was hurt after reading some things people were saying about Cruz on the internet.

"It hurts Brittany to read comments about her son's well-being," the source says. "She is highly protective over her son as any caring mother would be. Despite what she is going through personally in her marriage, her and Jax have always and continue to put their son first."

"He remains their number one priority and they have done a great job co-parenting during this rather turbulent time. They are both incredibly attentive and loving parents and give Cruz absolutely everything he needs. He is a happy child and that's all that really matters," they tell PEOPLE.

Last week, Cartwright shared a photo on her Instagram of herself in a gray T-shirt, which read, "My boyfriend is out of town." In her comments, several fans shared their opinions on her separation from Taylor.

"I think she is a very strong person. Think about it, she walked away from a home she loved and help create that HOME for her child," one person wrote. "It must have been horrific, the mental abuse she suffered. People don't just walk way from all they love if not for the safety of her child and mental health. Go Brittany, go! We got you!!"

Another wrote that they were worried about the way Taylor treated her after seeing scenes from the estranged couple's reality TV series The Valley.

"If he's talking to you like that on national tv, it's gotta be worse in private," they wrote, referring to Taylor. "Your son needs to emulate a man that shows kindness and respect — neither of which your husband has. Run."

In April, Cartwright opened up to PEOPLE about how she's been co-parenting with Taylor since the two announced their separation this past February.

"We're doing a really good job going back and forth," Cartwright said of their co-parenting. "And I'll also take him to the house and play and we'll swim one day or have him play on his play set and we'll do different things."

"Jax will take him to Sky Zone, or he'll take him to the park one day. But that's the most important thing. So I think it's honestly been better because we aren't fighting in front of him. And for me, I think that's what is most important, right now. Because that's why I had to get him out of that situation in the first place."
