Bruce Springsteen postpones 3 European concerts due to 'vocal issues'

The Boss is taking a break under "doctor's orders."

Bruce Springsteen is once again postponing shows due to some health challenges.

Springsteen initially postponed his show, set for May 25, in Marseille, announcing only a few hours before showtime that he would not be going on that night.

"Due to vocal issues and under doctor's direction, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's concert this evening at the Orange Vélodrome in Marseille, France has been postponed to a later date," an Instagram post read.

The following day he postponed additional shows, the May 28 concert in Prague, Czech Republic and the June 1 and 3 concerts in Milan, Italy. Springsteen and the band plan to resume their tour at the June 12 show in Madrid, Spain.

"Following yesterday's postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days," an image which accompanied the Instagram post read. "With this in mind, additional postponements are required for Airport Letnany in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28) and San Siro Stadium in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1 and 3). New dates for these shows will be announced shortly. Those wishing a refund will be able to obtain it at their original point of purchase."

The message concluded: "Bruce is recuperating comfortably, and he and the E Street Band look forward to resuming their hugely successful European stadium tour on June 12 in Madrid at the magnificent Civitas Metropolitan."

Springsteen has been having a tough time lately. Last fall, he postponed all of his show dates from late September through the end of the year, due to peptic ulcer disease.

"When I had the stomach problem, one of the big problems was I couldn't sing," he told SiriusXM before relaunching the tour. "You sing with your diaphragm. My diaphragm was hurting so badly that when I went to make the effort to sing, it was killing me. I literally couldn't sing at all, and that lasted for two or three months, along with just a myriad of other painful problems."

He played those rescheduled dates across the United States throughout the spring, noting in the concerts that he had suffered from a terrible "bellyache" that hurt so badly he could not sing through the pain. Springsteen said that he was approaching the dates as if it was a "new tour," putting more variety into the set list.

Many have surmised that Springsteen's current vocal challenges are a result of his May 25th show in Sunderland, U.K. where he performed in a near constant torrential downpour. Springsteen commented on the rain when he accepted the Academy Fellowship at the Ivor Novello awards from Sir Paul McCartney.

Springsteen and the E Street Band currently have tour dates scheduled through the end of November. The tour will also serve as fodder for the documentary, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, which is set to premiere on Hulu and Disney+ this fall.
