K-pop powerhouse BTS took home their sixth Worldwide Icon of the Year Award at the 2023 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) on Tuesday, just weeks before the remaining members enlist for their mandatory military service.

About the award: Worldwide Icon of the Year is one of the event’s top honors, alongside artist, song and album of the year. The award was determined by global fan votes.

In a video message, Jungkook thanked ARMYs for their continued support.

“We, once again, won the Worldwide Icon of the Year. It's our sixth time. We're really grateful and thankful to our ARMY for sending us such unchanging love,” said BTS' main vocalist, who also bagged awards for best dance performance male solo, as well as best collaboration for his song “Seven” featuring Latto.

Military enlistment: The septet could not attend the two-day Tokyo Dome event as three members — Jin, J-Hope and Suga — are currently serving in the military. Last week, label Big Hit Music announced that the remaining four members — RM, V, Jimin and Jungkook — have begun their enlistment process.

Reports say RM and V will enlist on Dec. 11, followed by Jimin and Jungkook on the next day. The group expects to reunite in 2025 after all members complete their service.

Other winners: The rest of the major awards were given on the second day. NewJeans won artist of the year and song of the year for “Ditto,” while Seventeen, which received the most awards this season, took home album of the year for “FML.”
