SINGAPORE — A major accident occured along Bukit Timah Road early on Wednesday morning (6 March) involving a school bus and a car, which caught fire upon crashing. The car driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested for "failing to provide breath specimen", the Singapore Police Force said in a statement.

Police officers pulled two car passengers, a 32-year-old female and a 27-year-old male, from within the car to safety. They were also later arrested, along with another 22-year-old male passenger, for traffic-related offences.

The car driver and all his passengers were conveyed conscious to the hospital, the police said. Two children from Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) who were on the bus, ages 8 and 9, were also conveyed to NUH conscious. The two children have since been discharged.

Another person was assessed for minor injuries, but declined to be sent to the hospital. The accident also resulted in a jam which lasted several hours.

The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the incident at about 6am and 6.20am respectively. The fire was extinguished using a water jet.

According to The Straits Times, the accident happened outside the RoyalGreen Condominium in Anamalai Avenue.

Video and photos posted on social media

A video of the incident surfaced on Reddit on Tuesday morning, showing a damaged bus and a burning car seen near the crash site.

School supplies like files, pieces of paper and lunch boxes could be seen strewn across the road, with a fallen lamp-post and a police car also appearing in the video.

Photos posted on Instagram showed the white school bus with a shattered windscreen, and missing both its front wheels. The wheels, still attached to the axle, were spotted a short distance away.

In a Facebook post at 8.57am, SBS Transit announced that bus services 74, 151, 154, 156, 157, 170, 174 and 852 were delayed along Bukit Timah Road towards Clementi Road because of an accident. The services have since resumed, SBS said in an update at 1.34pm.

Police investigations are ongoing, while the SCDF is investigating the cause of fire.
