Burnley vs Chelsea LIVE!

Chelsea secured back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since March after coming from behind to thrash Burnley 4-1. Looking to end a run of four successive home defeats on their return to the top flight this season, Burnley raced into a 15th-minute lead, Wilson Odobert scoring his first goal in English football to stun the visitors.

Chelsea offered little in response until Ameen Al-Dakhil put through his own net in unfortunate circumstances three minutes before the break to get Mauricio Pochettino’s team back level. The visitors then took complete control of the match in the second half, Cole Palmer converting from the spot after Raheem Sterling had been fouled in the penalty area just a few minutes after the restart.

A fine Sterling goal and a fourth from substitute Nicolas Jackson put the game beyond the hosts, lifting Chelsea to ninth in the table, with Burnley remaining in the relegation zone with only one win this season.

Chelsea ratings

17:14 , Matt Verri

Raheem Sterling 9

A point to prove after latest England omission and proved it in style. Created the first two goals when team-mates looked shot of belief. Scored the third himself and involved in Jackson’s fourth.

Armando Broja 3

Kept his place after goal at Fulham despite Jackson return from suspension but hardly had a kick and was dragged at half-time.

Cole Palmer 8

Bright start briefly looked in danger of fading but took responsibility from the spot and then set-up Jackson’s fourth.

FT: Burnley 1-4 Chelsea

16:59 , Matt Verri

Chelsea have back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since March!

They had to do it the hard way to, coming from behind before running away with the match in the second-half.

Palmer, Sterling, Jackson with the goals after the break - big win for Pochettino’s men.

16:56 , Matt Verri

90+4 mins: Good move from Burnley, ends with Foster firing at effort at goal from the edge of the area.

Sanchez’s dive makes it look fairly close, but that was always rising high and wide.

16:52 , Matt Verri

90+1 mins: Seven minutes added on.

Not sure that’s what any Burnley fan really wanted to see...

16:51 , Matt Verri

89 mins: Chelsea fans cheering every pass, Kompany looking thoroughly miserable on the touchline. Not gone to plan for him.

After their win last time out at Luton, this has been a frustrating return to home comforts for Burnley.

16:47 , Matt Verri

85 mins: First time since April 2022 that Chelsea have scored four goals in any match.

What an afternoon for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Bit of a concern here, as Palmer goes down.

He’s replaced by Maatsen, who gets a good reception from the Burnley fans after his Turf Moor displays last season.

16:44 , Matt Verri

82 mins: Sanchez just about shovels a strike from distance behind for a corner - not his finest bit of goalkeeping. It will do.

He’s had a fairly quiet afternoon overall, Burnley haven’t been able to sustain pressure on the Chelsea defence.

16:39 , Matt Verri

78 mins: Chelsea fans making all the noise at Turf Moor, it’s turned into a pretty perfect afternoon for them.

Odobert tries to put a stop to that, lashing a volley at goal, but it’s well-blocked.

GOAL! Burnley 1-4 Chelsea | Jackson 75'

16:36 , Matt Verri

Four goals in a match for Chelsea!

And Jackson gets himself on the scoresheet, great footwork and composure in the box before producing the finish.

The Blues are flying.

16:34 , Matt Verri

73 mins: Chelsea in no rush to do anything, no need to force it. Passing the ball around at the back and they are in a position of real dominance.

Colwill eventually puts a cross into the box, cleared before Palmer can pounce at the back post.

16:31 , Matt Verri

70 mins: More frustration from the home fans, as Jackson wins a free-kick for Chelsea.

Brilliant skill from the Blues striker, completely isolated and does well to make something of the situation.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

16:29 , Matt Verri

I couldn’t be 100% sure, but I think Burnley might have kicked off a fraction of a second before Stuart Attwell blew his whistle to signal a VAR check.

Doesn’t matter anyway because Sterling’s onside and his superb day continues.

16:28 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Hold up - VAR having a long look at this for offside.

Initial replay made it look like Sterling was on, but the officials maybe not quite so sure.

At long last the goal is officially given!

GOAL! Burnley 1-3 Chelsea | Sterling 65'

16:26 , Matt Verri

That could be that!

Sterling has been sensational all match and he’s got his goal to show for it, finishing superbly with his left foot as fires the shot across Sanchez.

16:25 , Matt Verri

64 mins: No real sign of Burnley mounting a comeback, they’ve been poor since the break.

Chelsea continue to knock the ball around confidently, they’re firmly on course for a second win on the bounce heading into the international break.

Kompany shuffles his pack

16:23 , Matt Verri

16:20 , Matt Verri

59 mins: Big chance for Chelsea, as Burnley lose it deep in their own half.

Fernandez completely free, edge of the box... basically passes it straight at Trafford.

16:17 , Matt Verri

56 mins: Huge groans around Turf Moor as Burnley make a mess of a short corner. Eventually clipped into the middle, easily headed out.

Chelsea in control of this match, frustration in the stands is decent proof of that.

16:15 , Matt Verri

54 mins: Vitinho tries to make a cute pass to open up the Chelsea defence, doesn’t pull it off and then decides to throw himself to the ground in the hope of winning a free-kick.

Not fooling anyone with that.

16:12 , Matt Verri

51 mins: First Chelsea goal for Palmer then, and he’s almost in for his second immediately.

Gallagher bursting free, has Palmer free to his right but the pass takes too long... offside.

GOAL! Burnley 1-2 Chelsea | Cole Palmer 50'

16:10 , Matt Verri

Chelsea take the lead!

Palmer made to wait as the VAR check goes on and on and on, but eventually he gets the go-ahead and sends Trafford the wrong way.

PENALTY CHELSEA!

16:09 , Matt Verri

Horror start to the half for Burnley.

Sterling is too quick, again takes on Vitinho on the outside and the full-backs dives in... brings him down.

Just inside the box.

Back underway!

16:06 , Matt Verri

Up and running for the second-half.

Chelsea have made a change at the break - Jackson on to replace Broja. One for Burnley too, O’Shea replaces Al Dakhil.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

16:05 , Matt Verri

Big second-half coming up for Chelsea here.

They’ve not won back-to-back league games since March and not come from behind to win in the league in a year.

Kicking both of those grim habits would be an ideal way to go into the international break.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

15:52 , Matt Verri

Didn’t look like it was coming for Chelsea after the Burnley goal but Raheem Sterling’s perseverance has found them a way back into the game.

Enzo Fernandez, who has already been booked for dissent, was giving the officials another piece of his mind as they went off and has to be dragged away by Mauricio Pochettino before he gets himself in any more bother.

15:48 , Matt Verri

45+2 mins: Silva the latest player to be shown a yellow card - that looks very harsh.

Vitinho pokes the pass forward and then jumps into Silva, who hasn’t moved an inch. Referee waits a couple of seconds, before blowing for the free-kick and bringing the card out.

15:46 , Matt Verri

45 mins: All Chelsea now, Burnley badly need half-time. They can’t get out.

Trafford wisely choosing to slow things down and urge his team-mates up the pitch, as the board goes up. Three minutes added on.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

15:45 , Matt Verri

How Chelsea needed that. Sterling’s taken it upon himself a couple of times to take on the two men doubling on him and he gets his reward with a bit of good fortune.

GOAL! Burnley 1-1 Chelsea | Al Dakhil OG 42’

15:44 , Matt Verri

Chelsea level it up!

Own goal but they won’t care. No surprise that Sterling is involved again, beats Vitinho on the outside and plays the ball low into the box... Al Dakhil at the near post doesn’t sort his feet out and the ball flicks off his hip, looping over Trafford and into the far corner.

15:42 , Matt Verri

41 mins: Vitinho with a crucial flicked header, sending the ball behind for a corner with Sterling lurking at the back post.

Palmer to take - bounces all the way through the mass of bodies before Foster sends the ball clear.

15:38 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Sterling having more and more of an influence on this match.

Picked out by Caicedo, goes on the outside past Vitinho and drills a low effort towards the near post. Not hugely convincing from Trafford - basically sits on the ball. Gets the job done though.

15:35 , Matt Verri

34 mins: Chelsea looking most dangerous when Burnley make mistakes playing out from the back.

Loose pass here, Fernandez can nod it to Gallagher and Chelsea have numbers up. Ball floated to the back post, Cullen does just about enough to put Sterling off.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

15:33 , Matt Verri

Hesitancy has been the name of the game for Chelsea here.

Cucurella was slow out for the goal and now Fernandez wants too long when picked out by a cracking Gallagher ball.

15:32 , Matt Verri

30 mins: Cucurella does well here, Odobert running at him again but this time the Chelsea full-back makes the tackle to halt his progress.

Sterling looks to break away for Chelsea, Cullen is swiftly across and basically gets him in a headlock as he grabs hold. Yellow card - he doesn’t bother arguing about that.

15:28 , Matt Verri

27 mins: Madness from Cucurella, who just takes a swipe at Odobert as he chases back after the Burnley winger. Kicks out - yellow card for the full-back.

And Fernandez swiftly joins him in the book for arguing about that decision.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

15:25 , Matt Verri

Lots of Chelsea possession since that opening goal but where the likes of Palmer and Sterling started the game playing with real positivity, it’s all a bit passive now.

15:25 , Matt Verri

24 mins: Nice spell of possession for Burnley, who have kept it well for a couple of minutes. They’ve got control of the match right now.

Broja yet to get involved at all for Chelsea, no service for the striker.

15:23 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Brilliant from Berge, driving straight through the Chelsea midfield.

Wide to Odobert, who is having the time of his life up against Cucurella. Dinks a cross to the back post, Tresor can’t quite get on the end of it.

15:19 , Matt Verri

18 mins: It’s been a familiar match for Chelsea so far.

Lots of possession, but a real struggle to turn that into clear-cut chances. Fair to say it’s not the first time that has been an issue for the Blues over the last 12 months...

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

15:17 , Matt Verri

Well then. Nice play from Burnley in midfield to take Colwill out of the game on halfway and from there Chelsea were always struggling to get cover across.

Terrific play from Lyle Foster in the build-up - Burnley have scored seven league goals now this season and he’s either scored or assisted five of them.

GOAL! Burnley 1-0 Chelsea | Odobert 15'

15:16 , Matt Verri

But Burnley take the lead!

Chelsea have been on top but they are behind now, Foster driving forward with the ball and sliding it to Odobert.

Shifts it onto his left foot, drills the finish low beyond Sanchez.

15:15 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Almost!

As close as we’ve come to the opening goal. Great effort from Sterling, who cuts in off the left wing as he skips past Vitinho.

Curled towards that far corner, just wide.

15:13 , Matt Verri

12 mins: Well worked from Burnley, play their way out under pressure and the space opens up for them in midfield.

Comes wide to Tresor on the right, it’s a terrible pass straight out of play.

15:09 , Matt Verri

8 mins: Smart turn from Palmer, works the ball onto his left foot and the space opens up for him.

He’s 25 yards out, looks to whip a strike into that far corner. High and wide.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

15:07 , Matt Verri

I know they’ve been playing like it for ages now under Vincent Kompany but this is my first time up at Turf Moor and there is something slightly unsettling about a Burnley side taking goal-kicks with both centre-halves asking for it inside the six-yard box.

15:06 , Matt Verri

5 mins: Both sides very comfortable playing out from the back, not scared to take risks.

Chelsea seeing plenty of the ball early on, Burnley content to sit back in their shape and let the Blues’ centre-backs have it.

15:03 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Great chance for Chelsea to break from the Chelsea counter, Foster with space to drive into.

Tries to slide it wide to Odobert, but it’s badly underhit and Caicedo can easily intercept. A real waste, that.

Malik Ouzia at Turf Moor

15:01 , Matt Verri

Some very audible boos as the players take the knee ahead of kick-off, for all the majority did their best to drown it out with applause.

KICK-OFF!

Up and running in this 3pm kick-off!

Team news is imminent.

Kompany in confident mood

13:27 , Alex Young

Vincent Kompany is confident that keeping Burnley's standards at a high level can make up for their lack of financial might in the Premier League.

The visit of Chelsea to Turf Moor on Saturday has shone a light on the respective spending powers of the two clubs, with the Blues doling out more than £400million on a dozen players in summer transfers.

The former Manchester City captain said: "I've been in that environment of having been in a place with money. Buying a proven player, you're going to have to pay money for that.

"But the standards and the habits we speak a lot about is the behaviour you need to have to win consistently, that's something you can transfer even into a club that's not spending as much.

"I think we can be a winning team without necessarily spending as much. I'm not trying to compare finances, I'm trying to compare standards. I'd like to think this place here has amongst the highest standards in the league, despite the fact we don't have the resources or the results that the best teams in the league have."

He added: "I look at fixtures but our first eight games were against teams like Chelsea. We got four out of six points against (Nottingham) Forest and Luton which were the only games against teams where we had to get results.

"It would be nice now to look at these types of games and get some results. With the fixtures coming up, we've got more of the types of games like we had against Forest and Luton where we actually had a chance before a ball was kicked."

Pochettino rallying cry

13:12 , Alex Young

Mauricio Pochettino has stressed that "every single game is important" as Chelsea look to continue their winning run today.

They have secured back-to-back wins after beating Brighton 1-0 in the League Cup and seeing off west London rivals Fulham 2-0 in the Premier League on Monday.

Up next for Chelsea is a trip to Turf Moor to face the Clarets and Pochettino knows how tough a match it will be.

He told a press conference: "Every single game is important for us, for us it's two different things.

"One is to get the result we need, another is to settle and help the players to arrive at their best to get their best form that they can.

"Every single game in the Premier League is important and of course tomorrow is going to be a tough game because it's a team who run a lot and try to play. Of course it's going to be tough but we go there to try to win the three points."

Score prediction

13:02 , Alex Young

While Chelsea benefitted from some poor Fulham defending in their win at Craven Cottage, a return to goalscoring form will be a relief for Pochettino.

There were plenty of positives in that display, while only Sheffield United have conceded more Premier League goals so far this season than Burnley. Chelsea can make it two wins on the bounce and keep the mood positive heading into a fortnight away from club football.

Chelsea to win, 2-0.

Burnley team news

12:51 , Alex Young

Vincent Kompany is unlikely to make many changes to the Burnley side that won for the first time in the Premier League this season at Luton in midweek.

Hjalmar Ekdal, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Manuel Benson, Nathan Redmond and Michael Obafemi are all doubtful to return.

Chelsea team news

12:43 , Alex Young

Chelsea have been boosted by the fitness of Mykhailo Mudryk and Moises Caicedo. Mudryk was forced off at half-time during Monday’s 2-0 win at Fulham but the Ukraine forward has recovered from a quad issue and is available for the trip to Turf Moor.

Caicedo went off late on against Fulham after a collision with Willian but he is also fit. Carney Chukwuemeka is fit again following injury and could return.

Pochettino has confirmed captain Reece James will be available to make his comeback once he has served his one-match ban for abusing referee Jarred Gillett after the recent loss to Aston Villa. James is set to return against Arsenal after the international break.

Nicolas Jackson is available again after his one-match ban, though Armando Broja scored against Fulham to make a case to keep his place in the team. Ben Chilwell and Romeo Lavia remain sidelined.

Where to watch? Nowhere!

12:35 , Alex Young

The game will not be broadcast in the UK as it takes place during the Saturday 3pm blackout imposed across English football at the time.

Welcome

12:29 , Alex Young

Neither team have had the best of starts to the season, though there are signs of life as we head into the second international break.
