On The Menu: The Good Batch Cafe and Bar

Five years after The Good Batch’s opening, the popular cafe and bar is changing things up with a new look and more tasty things on the menu. The extended alfresco area keeps to the same industrial theme they’ve rocked in the past, but the casual space now takes on a classier feel. Brunch meals are still available, but the menu also moves into dishing out restaurant quality mains.

From the varied list of sweet and savoury starters, the cheesy The Good Poutine (RM22) is becoming a new favourite. Their previously bestselling breakfast dishes The Angmoh (RM29) and Hangover Mess (RM25) remain on the menu, but you’ll also find sister restaurant Nara’s famous Chicken & Waffles (RM28) and new, refined brunch staples. The delectable Pulled Duck Benedict (RM29) sees slow-cooked braised duck and two perfectly poached eggs on toasted brioche, topped with chipotle hollandaise — gotta love that zing from the chilli! Egg lovers can chow down on the parmesan-crusted Scotched Eggs (RM25) filled with minced chicken and served with a hummus spread, chickpea ratatouille and garden greens on the side. The edges are crunchy, the eggs are runny, and the meat is well-seasoned — an appetising dish for sure!

The Good Batch is also open throughout lunch and dinner with higher-end offerings. Look to the Puttanesca (RM24) under the pasta section for a great meat-free option while the Salted-Egg Soft Shell Crab Pasta (RM37) is creamy and very fragrant, thanks to addition of fried curry leaves. For meatier mains, go for the juicy Bangers and Mashup (RM29) or the crispy Pan-Seared Duck Breast (RM37). Coffee is still great, and you still can find beer available on tap — they carry Kirin, Guinness and Tiger. Come by before 9pm to enjoy the happy hour deals with prices as low as RM11.50 for a Tiger beer.
