Two young brothers were killed when a car being chased by police slammed into their family’s car in San Diego, police say, according to multiple reports.

The boys, aged 8 and 4, were identified as Malikai and Mason Orozco-Romero in a GoFundMe started by Malikai’s godmother.

Angel Velazquez Salgado, 20, is charged with two counts of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, hit and run, felony evading and driving without a license, jail records indicate.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Salgado pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday. PEOPLE was not able to immediately reach his lawyer.

The Union-Tribune, ABC 10 and CBS8, citing authorities, reported that the crash happened on the evening of Dec. 8 on an off-ramp at Interstate 405.

The outlets reported that police say they were pursuing a BMW allegedly driven by Salgado, which hit the Honda containing the boys and their family, which then crashed into a tree and caught on fire. Prosecutors claimed Salgado was going around 100 miles per hour during the chase, the Union-Tribune reported.

According to GoFundMe organizer Brittany Phommavong, the boys’ mother, Victoria, was critically injured in the crash. Malikai and Mason’s father died last year, she wrote.

“Everyone who knows these kids knows no matter what they were going through they always carried a beautiful smile on their face,” Phommavong wrote. “This tragedy isn’t fair, I’m really lost for words I just appreciate everyone’s love and support.”

The GoFundMe has raised over $20,000.
