When Calls the Heart’s Mamie Laverock is in critical condition after falling five stories from a balcony walkway.

On May 11, the actress, 19, was transported by her mother Nicole Compton to a Winnipeg hospital due to a “medical emergency,” per the GoFundMe campaign her family created.

According to her parents Rob and Nicole, she was then transferred to a Vancouver hospital, where she would stay “upwards of a month or more.” At the time, they stated her recovery was “unclear” but “she is alive and is showing signs of improvement.”

Now, in an update to the family’s GoFundMe campaign — which has raised over 11,000 CAD as of May 28, the Comptons revealed that their daughter “was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories.”

“She sustained life-threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support,” Rob and Nicole continued. “We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time.”

Following the tragedy, Laverock's When Calls the Heart costar Erin Krakow posted a call to action on her Instagram, urging her followers to donate to the family’s fund. “💔 I just donated. If you have the means to do so, I hope you will too. Link in bio,” Krakow, 39, wrote under a screenshot of the GoFundMe page.

Johannah Newmarch, who plays Laverock’s on-screen mother Molly Sullivan, also shared her support in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“I love this family, my heart is broken. A devastating time for all who care for Mamie. Please help if you can," Newmarch, 52, wrote on May 27. "They need all the support they can get to make it through this."

PEOPLE has reached out to Hallmark for comment.

Prior to her stint on the Hallmark Channel, Laverock had her first professional role in 2012’s This Means War starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy. Although her improvised appearance ultimately got cut, she told Ruth Hill’s blog Media from the Heart that the experience was “unbelievable.”

On When Calls the Heart, Laverock had a recurring role as nursing student Rosaleen Sullivan on the show’s first two seasons. For her portrayal of Rosaleen in the Western drama, she received the Young Artists Award for best performance in a TV series in 2015.

She later reprised her role in 2023 for the show’s 10th season.
