It appears that Cardi B and Offset have once again decided to go their separate ways.

The musical pairing, who've been together since early 2017, secretly tied the knot the same year and welcomed two children — daughter Kulture Kiari, 5, and son Wave Set, 2 — during the course of their five-year marriage.

Still, with as much love and support as they have shown each other, the pair have had their fair share of ups and downs, too.

"I don't really like talking about love much, but I feel like I have to do it, just because I want people to know a little bit," Cardi told ELLE in 2020. "There's always rumors about me and my husband, and I feel like people would rather start rumors because they want me to be heartbroken. They want me to be hurt."

She continued: "I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything. But there's a lot of love, there's a lot of passion, there's a lot of trust, there's a big friendship. It's always us against the world."

Here, everything to know about the stars' latest split — and their relationship history.

Though neither party has explicitly revealed the reason for the breakup this time around, Cardi, 31, posted some cryptic messages about outgrowing people earlier this month.

"You know when you just out grow relationships,” the "Bongos" rapper wrote on Dec. 4, hinting at possible relationship trouble on her Instagram Stories.

She added to the statement, "I'm tired of protecting peoples feelings...I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST."

Cardi B and the former Migos band member, also 31, had fans curious, given they had stopped following each other on social media.

Offset also posted to his Instagram Story in the wake of the unfollowing news. The "Stir Fry" rapper posted a Scarface clip featuring Al Pacino yelling, “Hey, f--- you, man! Who put this thing together? Me! Who do I trust? Me!”

A source told PEOPLE exclusively, “They’re tumultuous. They've broken up and gotten back together and broken up again way more than the public has seen.”

Though representatives for the two rappers did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment, Cardi seemingly confirmed her single status during the weekend of Dec. 9.

The rapper got candid on Instagram Live as she admitted, “I’ve been single for a minute now,” according to a recording of the livestream shared on X.

She continued, “But I have been afraid… Not afraid, I just don’t know how to tell the world. But I feel like today has been, like, a sign.”

Cardi said she wants to start the new year “fresh” and “open,” as she admitted, “I’m curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah… I’m excited."

Cardi also confirmed that she had been dropping hints about the split to her followers by unfollowing Offset and posting cryptic messages on her story.

"I don't know if you guys have been getting clues from me, from my Lives, or from my Stories, when I put some certain music, or find my unfollowings," the rapper said.

The rappers split a few times throughout the course of their relationship.

The first public breakup came on Dec. 5, 2018, when Cardi announced on Instagram that she and Offset had gone their separate ways. "We got a lot of love for each other, but things just haven't been working out between us for a long time," she said.

She continued, "It's nobody fault I guess we just grew out of love, but we are not together anymore. It might take time to get a divorce and I'm going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter's father."

Offset tried to win her back by delivering $15,000 worth of roses to her during her concert a few weeks later. The couple — who had welcomed daughter Kulture in July of that year — would reconcile in January 2019.

Shortly after, Cardi spoke to PEOPLE about her decision to reconcile. "“I hang out with him, I talk to him every day and we do our thing,” Cardi says of Offset. “It’s just like — to make things perfect … it takes time. You know, f—ing and hanging out doesn’t mean that you guys are on like a perfect note, it takes time. It takes time. And it’s a marriage and there’s a child involved and family involved.”

Their next split came in September 2020, when the "Bodak Yellow" rapper filed for divorce at an Atlanta courthouse after reportedly finding out that Offset had been unfaithful again.

That breakup didn't last long either, as the two were spotted smooching at Cardi's birthday party on Oct. 10 and the divorce was called off "without prejudice" in November 2020.

Cardi B and Offset were last seen together turning up and showing some PDA during Paris Fashion Week in July.

Prior to that, they had gotten into another public spat after Offset accused Cardi of cheating.

"My wife f---ed a N---- on me gang yall n---- know how I come," Offset wrote in a now-deleted Instagram Story.

Cardi responded by posting a Twitter Space conversation in which she sang the first verse of Keyshia Cole's "I Should Have Cheated." She then told listeners, "That motherf---er spiraling and thinking s---."

"Please boy, stop acting stupid. Stop acting stupid," she addressed Offset directly. "Going crazy over a f---ing Space. Don't play with me. What the f---. Stop playing. That's all I'm gonna motherf---ing say."

She continued, “Come on, y’all. I'm f---ing Cardi B n—. I think sometimes motherf---ers forget I'm Cardi B. If I was giving this p---- to anybody, it would be out. I'm not just anybody.”

"Can't f--- no regular degular shmegular 'cause they gonna tell the world," explained Cardi. "And I can't f--- nobody in the industry 'cause they gonna tell too."

Offset would later clarify that the cheating accusations were just the result of a petty argument.

"That’s my wife. I love her to death,” he told Angela Yee. "If you got a New York woman, you know she’s a pitbull at the mouth. She get crazy at the mouth a little bit, and I was really lit that night. We [were] going back and forth and I was like, 'Watch this.'"

The pair managed to make it to their fifth anniversary in September 2023. However, the stars both attended the TikTok In the Mix music festival on Dec. 10, in Mesa, Arizona — but were not photographed together.

What Has Offset Said About His Infidelity?

Offset has addressed the subject of his infidelity several times, including on Call Her Daddy in October.

When it came to rebuilding trust after the fact, he said, "First off by like respecting her position, right? We both public figures, we both in the eyes of people. Stop being selfish. You’re married to this woman, be dedicated to this woman,."

He also said it can be difficult to address the public scrutiny around their relationship when it comes to their kids.

"I was married very young. I was a 26-year-old getting married as a mega superstar," he says. "I made mistakes, right?"

"It's like it's a family thing, and it affects not just one person. It affects the family ... I have other kids and I'm not with their mom and it's like. That s--- is hard. Like as they get older, they go to ask questions. Some of the hardest s--- I went through was my kids asking me, 'Why why why why why this and why why why why why.' That s--- hurts you."

"That's like another type of hurt where it's like, 'Oh s---. The kids saying that s---?' So I just want to be fair to everybody in the situation and not be selfish bro. Because that's how that s--- be, that s--- is selfish," he said.
