Carly Pearce reveals she has heart condition pericarditis, plans to alter her shows

"If my shows look a little different, just know it’s because I have to keep my heart rate under control right now," the country singer says.

Carly Pearce concerts are going to look different now — on doctors' orders.

The country music singer has revealed that she developed the heart condition known as pericarditis and will have to alter her shows moving forward.

"I have always been transparent and honest about every part of my life so I feel like this deserves the same honesty," Pearce, 34, says in a video posted to her Instagram on Thursday. "You guys know that I’ve been dealing with some health issues and through that, I have developed something called pericarditis, which is a heart issue."

According to the Mayo Clinic, pericarditis is swelling and irritation of the tissue surrounding the heart, which causes sharp chest pain that could spread to the shoulders and neck. Other symptoms include fatigue, coughing, swelling of the legs or feet, low-grade fever, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations.

The "I Hope You're Happy Now" singer says she's "been working with doctors and talking to [her] cardiologist" about the best course of treatment, especially while she's touring with Tim McGraw for his Standing Room Only Tour.

"I still want to be out on the road, it’s really important to me but we have all decided that it is in my best interest as I’m healing to alter my shows a little bit," she explains. "So if my shows look a little different, just know it’s because I have to keep my heart rate under control right now. That doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be completely fine, it just means that right now I’ve got to really take this seriously."

Pearce then asked her fans to give her "a little bit of grace" as she performs and releases her new album hummingbird (out June 7) while dealing her health issues. She also wants people to use this as sign to be aware of their own health.

"I’m a young, healthy person that really watches what I eat and exercises and this happened to me," she says. "So I just want to use my platform to tell you to take care of your body and listen to it and just know that if it’s trying to tell you something, it’s going to tell you."
