Casualty spoilers follow.

Casualty star Kirsty Mitchell has addressed her hopes for a reunion between Faith Cadogan and paramedic Iain Dean.

Fans of the soap will know that Faith's drug addiction was finally exposed back in September when Stevie and Faith's ex-boyfriend, Iain, separately reported Faith to their boss Max.

With Faith returning to work in the Emergency Department this week (January 27) following some time off to attend rehab, Faith actress Kirsty opened up to Inside Soap about her character's future.

When asked what the state of play is between Iain and Faith right now, Kirsty said: "She still loves Iain, even though she hid it well towards the end. They're lovely together and the kids adore him, but it's difficult."

She continued: "She has herself and her three kids, and they are the only people she can focus on right now; she doesn't have anything to give anyone else. And in her eyes, Iain deserves to be with someone who doesn't have all this baggage."

Opening up on the possibility of Faith and Iain getting back together after Faith's drug use came between them, Kirsty said that, although Faith might like it to happen, it's not a realistic dream.

"There is part of her that just wants Iain to open his arms and go, 'I love you, let's forget everything and I'll take care of you'. But she can't do that. And also that's very unrealistic: fairytales don't happen at Holby!"

Speaking about Faith coming back to work at the ED, the Casualty star said: "She's obviously nervous, and just trying to keep her head down. She's been through rehab and dealt with her own demons at this point; she's not ashamed of herself, she's walking in with her head held high. She's ready to work, but she's trying not to cause a scene or have anyone stare at her!"

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
