Casualty's Charles Venn shares exciting update on show return

Casualty star Charles Venn has provided fans with an exciting update about the BBC One soap's return.

The actor, who plays Jacob Masters on the medical drama, took to Twitter/X this week to post some behind-the-scenes snaps with his co-stars Milo Clarke (who plays Teddy Gowan) and Diane Botcher (Jan Jenning).

"Had too much fun today with this mob," he captioned the tweet.

When a fan then asked when Casualty will be back on TV, Charles confirmed it will return "very soon".

It comes shortly after Casualty producer Jon Sen promised that the soap, which has been off air since Saturday, September 16, will be back "later this year".

He also teased some of the upcoming storylines as he plans to step down from his role at the end of the year.

"So my final episodes will go out in 2024 and we come back on towards the end of the year with a really exciting storyline, which involves Stevie grappling with the PTSD she feels from her upbringing and that dovetails perfectly with an ongoing issue with the hospital," he told Radio Times about his final run.

He added: "So it's a really exciting story that we're telling over the next, kind of, three months and that comes back towards the end of the year."

Nigel Harman, who plays Max Christie, will also be leaving the soap next year, and he opened up about what's in store for his final scenes.

"Max, as we know, is having a bit of a health crisis. He's in denial about that – he's been having a bit of an affair, I think we know about that – and his health, let's say, becomes very problematic," he told Digital Spy.

"His question is whether or not to accept help from Jodie, which he doesn't want to do. It's that fight within him of whether or not he can allow someone else to help him, so we'll see what happens."

Casualty airs on Saturdays on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
