SINGAPORE — Roti prata chain Casuarina Curry has been hit with a two-week suspension by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) due to infestation discovered on one of its premises.

The affected outlet, situated at 138 Casuarina Road in Sembawang Hills Estate, will be closed from 9 to 22 January.

SFA posted a notice on its website on Tuesday (9 January) that the outlet's licensee would also be fined $800 for two violations: failure to keep licensed premises free of infestation and sale of unclean food. Each violation carries six demerit points and was detected within a 12-month period, leading to the penalties.

According to SFA regulations, a licensee accumulating 12 or more demerit points in a year may face a suspension of up to four weeks or even a licence cancellation.

Mandatory training and warnings issued after eatery violations

As part of the penalty, all food handlers at the outlet must retake and pass the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1 before they can return to work. Food hygiene officers working at the affected premises must also retake and pass the WSQ Food Safety Course Level 3.

SFA also emphasised the seriousness of these offences and urged food operators to strictly adhere to good food and personal hygiene practices while employing only registered food handlers.

Furthermore, the agency encouraged the public to avoid establishments with poor food safety practices and report such concerns through the SFA's online feedback form or by contacting the contact centre at 6805-2871.

In a now-deleted Facebook post on Tuesday, Casuarina Curry announced its temporary closure from 9 to 22 January "for renovations".
