Catherine Tate comedy Queen of Oz has reportedly been axed by the BBC after one series.

The show, which debuted earlier this year, follows Tate's character Princess Georgiana, a spoilt British royal who is forced to take up the throne in Australia after the Queen abdicates there.

It is now being reported (via TVZone) that the show has been cancelled by the broadcaster.

The BBC had no comment when contacted by Digital Spy.

Queen of Oz isn’t the only cancellation that Tate has suffered this year, with the star's Netflix mockumentary Hard Cell also axed after one series.

Speaking back in July, the comedian slammed Netflix after they didn’t initially inform her of their decision to not renew the show.

"Do you know Netflix never actually told me [about the cancellation]? So I've never actually had the call to say... nothing," she told BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball.

"Isn't it just rude? I heard from someone else's agent. That was nice."

She later told the told the BBC Two Breakfast Show: "[Netflix] had a change of staff and as happens when someone who has commissioned the show and then leaves, often they want to start afresh.

"I kind of understand, but it would've been nice for them to have told me."

Tate recently returned to Doctor Who in the role of companion Donna Noble for three specials, which also saw David Tennant reprise his role as the Doctor.

Speaking recently about the decision to bring back the pair, casting director Andy Pryor explained to Digital Spy that it came about after a lockdown tweet-along.

"David and Catherine got involved with that and Catherine really enjoyed it. Then it kicked off this conversation about how we'd love to do more," he said. "[Showrunner] Russell [T Davies] was like, 'Absolutely. Let's do more.'"

Queen of Oz is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
