Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a 76-year-old man was attacked in his own home when a burglar stormed through his front door.

The pensioner was left with a head injury when the man barged his way into the property on Vincent Gardens, in Hyson Green, Nottingham, on Monday. Footage released by Nottinghamshire Police shows the elderly man being pushed into the living room, causing him to fall to the floor.

He was then struck over the head with an unknown object before the attacker fled with the victim’s wallet, which contained cash and bank cards. The suspect, whose face was covered, was captured on CCTV fleeing the scene in the direction of Randal Street, Craven Road and Birkin Avenue.

The victim suffered a lump to his head and an injury to his finger during the aggravated burglary, which happened at around 4.35pm. The victim’s 96-year-old mother was also in the property at the time of the attack.

Detectives have now launched an investigation and urged anyone who recognises the suspect in the footage to get in touch. Police say they are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry, including asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam, and doorbell camera footage in the area to come forward.

The suspect is described as being white, of tall and slim build, while he was wearing a black hooded top, baseball cap, distinctive khaki-coloured trousers, and trainers. He was wearing a distinctive face covering during the attack.

'Nasty attack on a vulnerable victim'

Detective Inspector Chris Berryman said: “This kind of offence is thankfully very rare, but we are treating this incident extremely seriously and we are working hard to track down the man responsible.

“We are calling on the public to help us find this violent offender. We don’t want this to happen to anyone else. This was a particularly nasty attack on a vulnerable victim in his own home which left him with injuries.

"His 96-year-old mother was also in the property at the time. Think how you’d feel if this was your mother, father, grandmother, grandfather or member of your family who had been targeted in this way.

“We appreciate the footage we’ve released showing the suspect isn’t the clearest and that his face is concealed, but we believe someone out there will know who he is.

“He is wearing a distinctive face covering during the attack and we hope someone may recognise him from the clothing he is wearing or the way he runs from the scene.”

Police confirmed patrols have also been stepped up in the vicinity of the attack, with Det Insp Berryman adding: “We understand this incident will be concerning for the community, but there is nothing to suggest there is any wider threat to the public.

“I would like to reassure people that this is being treated as an isolated incident, however as a precaution, reassurance patrols have been increased in the area."
