Celebrity Chef Justin Sutherland Accused of Threatening Girlfriend with Gun, Squeezing Her Neck: Prosecutors

The 'Fast Foodies' star was arrested Friday night in St. Paul, Minn., say police

Celebrity chef and reality TV star Justin Sutherland is facing a criminal charge after prosecutors in Minnesota allege he threatened his girlfriend with a gun and squeezed her neck, according to court documents.

On Friday, June 28, Sutherland, 40, of St. Paul, was arrested. On Monday, July 1, he was charged with one count of felony threats of violence - reckless disregard risk, according to a statement of probable cause obtained by PEOPLE.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman, 24, allegedly told police that Sutherland pointed a gun at her and hit her in the chest with it, saying,  "Don't come back here or I am going to shoot you.”

The woman allegedly told police Sutherland put his hands around her neck and squeezed for approximately five to six seconds, and allegedly hit her with a gun, the complaint claims.

While he was allegedly strangling her, she said that he told her, "I could kill you," the probable cause statement claims.

An hour and a half before this alleged incident, the woman called 911 claiming her boyfriend had choked her and was trying to kick her out of the apartment, the probable cause statement says.

She did not provide Sutherland's name at the time "because she did not want to get anyone in trouble," the statement says.

She told responding officers that she and Sutherland "had a disagreement about something stupid," the statement says.

Sutherland told police the pair had a verbal disagreement and everything was fine, the statement alleges. No arrests were made at that time.

Sutherland's attorney, John Daly, tells PEOPLE the complaint “is riddled with falsehoods."

“Mr. Sutherland vehemently denies all the allegations in the complaint,” Daly told PEOPLE. “He never threatened to shoot anyone. He did not physically assault his girlfriend. He looks forward to the truth coming out as the court process unfolds.”

As for what allegedly prompted the woman’s claims, he added, “The relationship was coming to an end.”
