Celebrity Race Across the World lands new premiereBBC

Celebrity Race Across the World has landed a new premiere date.

The reality competition was supposed to premiere earlier this week, but a post on the show's X / Twitter account has confirmed it will now launch on Wednesday, September 20 at 9pm on BBC One.

The BBC had previously delayed the launch of Celebrity Race Across the World out of sensitivity due to an earthquake in Morocco that has killed nearly 3,000 people.

The 6.8 magnitude quake rattled the High Atlas Mountains last Friday and caused severe structural damage to the area that has made rescue missions more difficult.

Celebrity Race Across the World, which was filmed earlier this year, features Marrakesh in its opening episode so producers felt it was best to put off the season premiere.

A statement from the show explained: "The BBC has announced that in light of the earthquake in Morocco, the first episode of Celebrity Race Across the World will be postponed.

"We of course started off our journey in Marrakesh – it’s a beautiful city and we were so warmly welcomed by everyone during filming. Our hearts go out to the people of the country, and our thoughts are with them."

The globe-trotting competition challenges four celebrities, and a partner of their choice, to complete a 10,000-kilometre journey across 24 countries using only basic supplies.

This year's contestants include Strictly Come Dancing winner and McFly drummer Harry Judd and his mum Emma, Good Morning Britain's Alex Beresford and father Noel, All Saints singer Melanie Blatt and mum Helene as well as racing driver Billy Monger and sister Bonny.

Judd has already spoken about the emotional and physical toll that the gruelling competition took, revealing he broke down at one point during filming.

The celebrity version follows on the heels of three civilian series of Race Across the World, the most recent of which concluded this past May.

Celebrity Race Across the World will premiere on Wednesday, September 20 at 9pm on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
