Charlie Hunnam lines up next TV role

Charlie Hunnam has lined up his next television role, with the star set to join Prime Video's Criminal.

As per Deadline, the Sons of Anarchy star will lead the upcoming show, which is based on Ed Brubaker’s series of graphic novels.

Hunnam will reportedly play Leo, a “brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specialises in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead.

“Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”

Hunnam will be joined in the cast by Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins and Kadeem Hardison, with Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck confirmed to direct the first four episodes.

Hunnam’s most recent project was Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire, with the actor playing Kai in Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic. The Netflix film saw Hunnam adopt a Northern Irish accent, with the star explaining the decision in a subsequent interview.

“I'm a little self-conscious to make a big move and do an accent,” he told The Hook. “My favourite accent, which I've been looking for an opportunity to use, it's the Belfast accent. I worked really hard with a really fantastic dialect coach for, I probably must say, the first time in my career.

“I absolutely nailed the accent - I think it was perfect - but the American audience couldn't really understand a word I was saying. So then we had to ADR it and pull it back a bit. So listen, I justified it [by saying] that we're several thousand years in the future so maybe it's like the space version of the original accent.”

There is no release date for Criminal. Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire and Part Two: The Scargiver are available to stream on Netflix.
