Chasing world record 593 to win, Glamorgan out on last ball of match for 592 against Gloucestershire

CHELTENHAM, England (AP) — Glamorgan finished one run short of pulling off a world-record chase of 593 as it drew with Gloucestershire in the second tier of the England and Wales county cricket championship on Wednesday.

Mason Crane had leveled the scores with one ball to go on the fourth and final day of the match at Cheltenham, England. Jamie McIlroy then went for a big shot off the last ball from Ajeet Singh Dale but was brilliantly caught behind by James Bracey. Glamorgan was all out for 592 with the match tied.

Crane finished unbeaten on 43. Captain Sam Northeast (187) and Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne (119) had powered Glamorgan’s run chase.

Welsh team Glamorgan, which resumed Wednesday on 222-3, was dismissed for 197 in its first innings.

Gloucestershire scored 179 all out and 610-5 declared.

It was the first tied game in county cricket in six years, with Glamorgan registering the highest fourth-innings score in any first-class match played in England and the third best of all time.

The highest-ever run chase is the 536 successfully pursued by West Zone in a Duleep Trophy match against South Zone in India in February 2010. West Zone finished that match with a six to end on 541-7.
