Chelsea transfer news: Fluminense confirm stance on 'dream' signing Thiago Silva

Fluminense sporting director Fred admits Thiago Silva remains a “dream” signing for the club.

The 39-year-old will be out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season and the Blues are seemingly looking at centre-backs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Lille’s Leny Yoro is of interest at Stamford Bridge after a brilliant season for the French club, though both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are both circling.

Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande and Nice star Jean-Clair Todio are other names to have been sounded out, while the Blues are also tracking a new striker, as well as a left-back.

Silva, once hailed as the “Benjamin Button of football” by former manager Thomas Tuchel, has been dropped by Maurico Pochettino for Chelsea’s last three games despite an injury crisis limiting his options.

The vastly experienced defender is thought to have received offers from Fluminense as well as other clubs in Brazil and Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

He started his career with hometown club Fluminense before returning there between 2006 and 2009.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Fred said: “Thiago Silva has been a dream of ours for a long time, the president talks to him almost every week.

“Thiago has a contract in England, we’re rooting for him, I personally am a friend of his, I’m a big fan of his character, he deserves all the best. He knows that here the doors are wide open for him to return.”

“There’s nothing [imminent].

“We have to be careful not to put pressure on Thiago. The fans love Thiago, we love Thiago, and Thiago loves Fluminense. One day it’s inevitable, it will happen, it’s the player’s wish, the club’s wish and we hope it happens as soon as possible.”
