An American woman who traveled to the Bahamas for a yoga retreat earlier this month has gone missing, according to local police, along with her family and retreat organizers.

Taylor Casey, 41, was last seen on Wednesday, June 19, in the area of Paradise Island, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a statement on June 21.

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas, organizers of the yoga certification retreat that Casey was attending, also confirmed her disappearance to PEOPLE.

The organizers were the first to report her absence, the group told PEOPLE on Tuesday.

The retreat organizers grew concerned when Casey, of Chicago, did not show up for class on June 20, they said, and determined that she had disappeared.

Casey’s family believes she is in danger because she had big plans for her future once she completed the program in the Bahamas.

“I believe Taylor is in danger because she was eager to share her yoga retreat experience with others upon her return,” her mother Colette Seymore said in a statement posted in a Facebook page created to help locate her.

“Taylor would never disappear like this,” Seymore said in the statement shared on the “Find Taylor Casey" page.

Casey has been a yoga practitioner for 15 years. Attending the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat was part of her “long-term goal of deepening her practice,” her family’s statement said.

Her friends say they looked through images and videos of the Bahamas retreat group but did not find her in any of the photos or videos, according to the CSJ Report, a local independent outlet.

Casey is described as a light-skinned Black woman with a slim build. She is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 145 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes. She has natural hair often covered by a durag.
