Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky have come under fire after shoving their son’s face in his birthday cake.

Their twin boys Tristan and Sasha turned nine years old at the weekend and the way in which the family chose to celebrate the milestone has raised some eyebrows online.

Thor actor Hemsworth, 39, took to Instagram to share a picture showing model Pataky, 46, pushing one of their little boys’ head into a birthday cake while Hemsworth can be seen smiling in the background.

“Happy 9th birthday to my two little men!” he wrote in the accompanying caption. “Only one way to eat cake in this house and that’s to have mum slam your head into it face first!! ‘Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla’. ‘Oh really son, what about now?’”

The move divided the internet, with many rushing to the comments section to weigh in.

“Why people smash their kid’s face in the cake is above my understanding but whatever,” wrote one person.

“It’s so violent,” put in a second, while a third questioned: “whhhyyyyy do people think this is funny.”

One person had the perfect response to the naysayers, firing back: “Because it’s funny and a family tradition and it give kids a memory to laugh at and then the look forward to it happening to their siblings and they share the joy.”

Others said they had similar family traditions.

Hemsworth and Pataky are also parents to 10-year-old daughter India Rose.
