Ciara is related to a legendary baseball player and Morissette is related to an award-winning actress.

On the latest episode of Finding Your Roots, host Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. traces the genealogy of two singers from two diverse backgrounds and genres: Ciara and Alanis Morissette.

After discovering the various journeys and obstacles their ancestors faced, Ciara then learns she is distant cousins with retired New York Yankees infielder Derek Jeter, while Morissette learns she's distant cousins with actress Claire Danes.

Dr. Gates explains that comparing the singers' DNA with the DNA of other celebrities who have been on the show revealed the relatives they never knew they had.

"What the world?!" Ciara exclaims when she opens Gates' special gene binder to Jeter's picture. "That's crazy!"

The two seemed to have met at least once, as they were photographed together in 2015 at the ESPY Awards.
