Cody Fisher: Child's touching tribute to 'best PE teacher ever' killed in Boxing Day dancefloor stabbing

A pupil has paid a touching tribute to his PE teacher, who was stabbed to death in a nightclub on Boxing Day.

Cody Fisher, 23, died after being attacked on the dancefloor of the Crane venue in the Digbeth area of Birmingham on Monday.

West Midlands Police confirmed on Wednesday two men had been arrested on suspicion of the murder of the non-league footballer.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at an address in Birmingham city centre just after midnight, while a second man, 21, was arrested in London.

Tributes have flooded in for Mr Fisher, with one of his former pupils leaving a touching message for him outside the nightclub.

It read: “Mr Fisher we are gonna miss you so much. You were the best PE teacher and inspired me so much.

“I will make you proud with my football and I will never forget you. R.I.P. Love Bertie.”

Mr Fisher worked with primary schools in the area, with Woodrow First School and Nursery in Redditch also paying tribute.

“Everyone is devastated to hear of the tragic and needless death of this friendly and talented young man," the school said in a statement.

“Many of the children know Cody as their sports coach and love and admire him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. May he rest in peace.”

Mr Fisher’s girlfriend Jess Chatwin, also posted a tribute to him on social media, saying: “You didn’t deserve any of this. I’m so sorry this has happened to you my baby please come home. I love you forever Cody Fisher.”

A statement published by police and attributed to Mr Fisher’s family said their hearts were "broken".

It added: "I have lost my best friend. My family and I are asking for privacy and respectfulness at this heart-breaking time.”

Mr Fisher played for Stratford Town, Stourbridge FC and Bromsgrove Sporting, with the latter tweeting: "All of us at Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Cody Fisher.

"Cody, was a friend to many at the club and we send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones."

Mr Fisher was out with friends at the Crane nightclub in Digbeth when he was stabbed.

Officers said they were called to the venue at around 11:45pm on Boxing Day and despite efforts to save him, Mr Fisher died 30 minutes later.

A dedicated web page where people can send information, photos and videos that could help the murder probe has been set up by West Midlands Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Ingram said: "We’ve been really pleased with the response from the public and have already had a number of witness accounts and images sent through, which will help with our investigation.

“It’s vital that we hear from everybody who saw any part of what happened that night – no matter how insignificant they think it might be.”
