Cody Gakpo delivers verdict on Arne Slot's imminent arrival as Liverpool boss

Cody Gakpo admitted is “very curious” to see how Arne Slot will fare as Liverpool boss, should he replace Jurgen Klopp as expected.

Klopp is stepping down this summer and it is Slot who is set to take his place in the Anfield dugout, after Liverpool agreed a compensation deal of close to £10million with his current club Feyenoord.

There has been no confirmation yet, though, and Slot has grown frustrated at the persistent press conference questions over the move to England. He recently warned it was becoming “unpleasant” as he repeatedly insisted he would only discuss the situation once it had been made official.

Liverpool’s players have also been asked for their opinion on Slot’s imminent arrival, with Van Dijk last month stating his belief that his fellow Dutchman has the attributes to be successful with the Reds.

Gakpo came up against Slot’s teams when he was a PSV player, and the forward revealed the Liverpool squad are “looking forward” to working under the Feyenoord boss.

“To be honest, I have never worked with him,” Gakpo told Viaplay.

“I know, of course, that he is a very good coach who has shown it at AZ and at Feyenoord too. We played against [his Feyenoord] a few times, often difficult games.

“I am very curious and I think we are all very much looking forward to it.

“The focus at the moment is not there yet and is now on finishing the last two games well, for ourselves, for the club, for the coach, and then we will look further at the new coach.”
