Coimbatore: Elderly persons pledge body donation to medical students

Elderly persons residing in an old age home in Coimbatore pledged to donate their bodies posthumously to young aspiring doctors for studying human anatomy and for conducting scientific research. The donation of the bodies after death is gaining popularity in the orthodox Indian society, where many religious rituals are held before cremating the dead. Many elderly persons who are living away from their kin and some who have been abandoned by the families are very happy about the decision. They have entrusted the task of handing over their bodies to a government hospital assisted by a NGO, who is also working to create awareness among others to donate their body posthumously.
