Coleen Rooney calls out "unnatural" friendship with Rebekah Vardy
Coleen Rooney has opened up about her "unnatural friendship" with I'm a Celebrity star Rebekah Vardy prior to the 'Wagatha Christie' trial.
Back in 2019, Rooney, wife of ex-professional footballer Wayne Rooney, published a lengthy social media post alleging that Vardy's account had sold false stories about her to the press – something which Vardy had strongly denied.
Speaking to the The Times ahead of the realise of Disney+ documentary series Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, Rooney revealed she had never felt close to Vardy.
"I can tell when someone is trying to force a friendship because of your status. I'm very savvy about that," she said.

"And I felt like the friendship Rebekah was trying to put on me was unnatural."
While the pair hadn't been close before the scandal, Rooney added that she'd been shocked to learn that Vardy had shared her personal information, having also lived in the public eye.
"Obviously Rebekah has lived my life to a degree, in the public eye. So I never thought someone would do that to someone else," she explained.
"But I knew she enjoyed the limelight and would do things only to be in the public eye. And the more I knew, the more I wasn’t surprised."

Set to be released on Wednesday, October 18, the Disney+ documentary follows how Rooney utilised Instagram to try and understand how stories about her were being leaked to the public, leading to the famous "It's......... Rebekah Vardy's account" post.
The three-part series will also cover the highly publicised court case which followed afterwards. Vardy lost a libel case over the claims in summer 2022.
Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story premieres on Wednesday, October 18, streaming on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.
