Colombia, FARC rebels reach historic peace deal

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has been committed to ending the half-century conflict with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)

Colombia's government and FARC rebels announced Wednesday that they have reached a historic peace deal to end their half-century civil war, the last major armed conflict in the Americas. "The Colombian government and the FARC announce that we have reached a final, full and definitive accord... on the end of the conflict and the building of a stable and enduring peace in Colombia," they said in a joint statement read out in the Cuban capital Havana, where the two sides have been in peace talks for nearly four years.
