Conaway wins Democratic primary in race to succeed New Jersey Rep. Andy Kim

State Assembly member Herb Conaway will win the Democratic nomination for the seat representing New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ projects.

Conaway defeated fellow state Assembly member Carol Murphy and a few other candidates for the nomination to succeed Rep. Andy Kim (D-N.J.), who chose not to seek another term in office to instead run for Senate. Kim was projected to win his Senate primary Tuesday night and is the heavy favorite to win in November.

Conaway had the endorsement of the county Democratic parties for Burlington, Mercer and Monmouth counties, the three that make up the district.

He will be the favorite to win the seat in the Democratic-leaning district. The district had been more of a battleground when Kim first won election to the seat in 2018 but has since become more favorable to Democrats following the redistricting process.
