Coronation Street has aired devastating scenes for Sarah Barlow as she lost her baby and found out her marriage is over.

Wednesday's (July 2) episode was a dramatic hour as she continued to face the breakdown of her marriage while also dealing with a tragic turn of events.

Sarah was initially desperate to save her marriage to Adam Barlow after he recently discovered that his love rival Damon Hay is actually the father of Sarah's child.

While Adam embarrassed Sarah by exposing her lie to their family and friends, in Wednesday's hour, she tried to get through to him about trying to reconcile.

As Adam harshly criticised her over the phone, Sarah suddenly felt intense pain in her stomach. Sarah quickly ended the call and bundled herself into a taxi headed for the hospital.

Maria Connor witnessed Sarah's desperate hospital trip and felt she had no choice but to tell Adam. Adam rushed to the hospital to be by Sarah's side, and she was given devastating news.

The doctor explained to Sarah that she'd lost her baby and would need to have a procedure to prevent further complications.

Once she returned home, Sarah confided in Adam that her baby was a girl, leading to her husband blaming himself for putting stress on her.

Sarah tried to assure Adam he wasn't to blame, yet she also broached the subject of reconciling. Adam remained conflicted, but an emotional chat with Daniel Osborne convinced him his marriage couldn't be saved.

Adam broke the news to a devastated Sarah that, even though he now accepts his own behaviour was appalling, he knew their marriage was over the minute he found out about Sarah's affair with Damon.

The lawyer told Sarah that he wanted a divorce, leaving his wife heartbroken for multiple reasons in this period of grief.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
