Coronation Street casts Crossroads star as Joel Deering's mum
Crossroads star Carol Royle has been cast as Joel Deering's mum as his parents are set to arrive in Coronation Street.
Royle is known for her role as Diane Lawrence in Crossroads from 2001 to 2002, as well as playing Lady Patricia Brewster in Heartbeat.
The actor has also had roles in Casualty, The Bill, Doctors, Inspector Morse prequel Endeavour, and BBC sitcom Life Without George.
She will arrive in Corrie as Anthea Deering, Joel's disapproving mother who comes to Weatherfield alongside his father Gus to meet his girlfriend Dee-Dee Bailey.

Their meeting doesn't go to plan, with Dee-Dee leaving the Bistro when she can't take any more of Anthea's cutting remarks.
After she storms out, Joel calls in at the flat to apologise to Dee-Dee for Anthea's behaviour, before leaving her stunned as he gets down on one knee to propose.
It comes after tension raised between the couple after Dee-Dee discovers that Joel is representing Nathan Curtis amid Lauren Bolton's murder case.
The couple came to blows as Dee-Dee is set to represent the other main suspect at trial, Roy Cropper, but Joel makes it clear he will continue to work with Nathan.

Show bosses previously confirmed they would explore Joel's backstory after the mysterious solicitor arrived in Weatherfield, striking up a relationship with Dee-Dee.
Scenes earlier this year saw him finally come clean with his girlfriend following his secret meetings with a mystery woman being exposed.
He shared that the woman in question was his estranged wife Emily, who is the mother to his daughter Maeve, leading Joel and Dee-Dee to split before eventually reuniting.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
