Coronation Street confirms returning character in Aaron storyline

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street will be bringing back a character we've not seen for a short while, as Aaron Sandford and Amy Barlow's rape storyline continues.

Aaron recently had sex with Amy when she was too drunk to consent, and is currently staying with Abi Franklin after what happened became public knowledge.

In scenes set to air soon, Aaron's dad Eric turns up on the cobbles and breaks the news that Aaron's nan has died. He says that he would like to take Aaron and Abi out for dinner.

Later in the week, Eric explains that he's got a new flat locally and wants Aaron to move back in with him.

Will Aaron continue to stay with Abi or take up Eric's offer? And will the return of his dad, who was previously violent and abusive towards him, make Aaron realise what he's done to Amy was wrong?

Speaking about Aaron, James Craven has said that he has found getting into his character's mindset challenging at times, as he knows that Aaron's behaviour was wrong even if the character doesn't comprehend that.

"It's quite a difficult thing when he's outwardly defending himself and you know that he shouldn't be defending himself," he explained.

He added his feeling that the storyline is "so important" in terms of encouraging conversations about the importance of consent.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
