Coronation Street confirms Simon Barlow's sentence for drink-drive crash

Simon Barlow's sentence for the drink-driving crash has been revealed in Coronation Street.
With cast member Alex Bain's departure from the ITV soap looming, his character Simon had to stand before a judge in Wednesday's episode (March 13) to learn his fate.
Simon recently confessed that he'd been drinking before a car accident that injured his younger stepbrother, Sam Blakeman.
Wednesday's episode saw Nick Tilsley choosing not to support Simon in court because of the way he'd put Sam in danger.

While Leanne Battersby was initially outraged at her partner, she was relieved when Nick eventually did show up for the hearing and held her hand through the difficult moments.
When it came time for the sentencing, Simon received an unexpected lifeline when the judge confirmed he would not face time behind bars.
Instead, Simon was sentenced to complete 80 hours of community service and face a six-month driving ban. If he met these terms, he'd have his driving privileges reinstated.
Leanne was overcome with relief that her son wouldn't be going to prison, though Nick could barely mask his unease over Simon's fate.
Cast member Ben Price has hinted that the divide between Nick and Leanne could drive a wedge between them as they contemplate getting married.
"Simon still has Leanne and Peter's gone off somewhere," Ben told Digital Spy and other media recently.

"So Sam just has Nick and the Platts. And Nick wasn't there for his first 10 years or whatever. Nick as a character looks after his family in a way and tries to hold it together.
"I think he feels like he needs to do that for his son, and not have whatever happened to Simon be repeated, I think. So I think it's totally different now. I think he's like, 'Look, I've got a unit and I've got a good family in the Platts. So I want to protect that.'""
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
