Coronation Street kicks off Max Turner's new romance storyline

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Max Turner's romance storyline in Coronation Street has begun.

The teen is recently out of juvenile detention, where he made a close friend in fellow STC student Gav Adetiba. Since Max's release, Gav has asked his mate to help him track down his girlfriend Bec.

Coronation Street producers had hinted that Max would have a new romantic interest once he was out of the STC, with Bec catching his eye this week.

In Monday's (June 12) episode, Max relayed the news to Gav that he'd found Bec, so his mate begged him to convince Bec to start returning his phone calls.

Max called her round and tried to convince Bec to forgive Gav, though they were interrupted by Audrey looking for Gail. Audrey assumed Bec must be Max's new girlfriend, joking that he hadn't had much luck with girls.

"The last one he had, ugh, she was horrific," Audrey recalled.

Once Audrey was gone, Bec wanted all the details on what went wrong with Max's ex-girlfriend Lauren — though he stopped short of revealing he'd met her in Griff's far-right gang.

Max tried to shift the conversation back to how "desperate" Gav is to make up with Bec, only for her to insist she'd moved on and that's why she agreed to a date with Max.

"You're single, I'm single, you invited me around to your house. What's that if not a date?" she wondered.

Max walked Bec home while trying to convince her this hadn't been a date, but he was left speechless when Bec encouraged him to call her.

Cast member Paddy Bever recently hinted that there would be trouble ahead for Max when Bec finds out about his past with Griff.

"It's an unexpected partner for Max. Max is also an unexpected partner for that person," he told Digital Spy.

"The partner might not exactly know who Max is and what he's done – and this person might be forced to come to terms with that."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
