Ken Barlow and Gail Platt have fallen out over Adam and Sarah Barlow's split in Coronation Street.

Earlier this week, Adam officially announced his intention to divorce Sarah mere hours after she'd suffered a miscarriage of her and Damon Hay's baby.

While it initially looked as if Adam regretted how he'd treated Sarah in recent weeks, tensions were high between their families once again in Friday's (August 4) episode.

The two initially came together to break the news to young Harry about the miscarriage and their split, and after doing so, Adam told Sarah he'd always consider Harry his son.

"I hope we can still stay friends through all this. I'd like that," Adam told her.

If the two had reached any kind of compromise, it went out the window once Gail clashed with Ken in the street over Adam's behaviour.

"Things could be a lot better if your grandson knew how to behave like a grownup," she told Ken. "No sooner is my daughter out of hospital, after a miscarriage, and he's talking about divorce proceedings."

Ken responded that "given Sarah's recent conduct", Adam was "well within his rights" to push forward with a divorce immediately.

"Did you never teach him the meaning of the word 'sensitivity'?" Gail asked Ken.

Ken snapped back: "I could ask you the same thing. Sarah and the word 'fidelity'?"

Gail was growing angrier as she ordered Ken to deliver a message to Adam: that he should be "ashamed" of himself. Ken stood gobsmacked as Gail turned to walk away.

Once she got home, Gail reported what she'd said to Sarah, joking that it was nothing compared to the past rows she's had with Eileen Grimshaw.

"I simply told Ken what I felt about the way his grandson was carrying on," she explained to an embarrassed Sarah.

Sarah tried to convince her mum that harsh words weren't how she wanted to handle the situation, but Gail retorted: "[Adam] should hang his head in shame."

"Mum, nobody comes out of this looking good," Sarah admitted.

Sarah suggested that it may be best to get started on the divorce proceedings after all since it would allow both her and Adam a fresh start.

"The most important thing is we have to do what's best for Harry and that's remaining civil with each other, and that includes families," Sarah told her mum. "No more slanging matches in the street."

Can the two families actually remain civil?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
