Coronation Street and Miranda stars team up for theatre show

Coronation Street star Nigel Havers and Miranda's Patricia Hodge have teamed up for a theatre show.

Starring in a production of Noel Coward's classic comedy Private Lives, Havers and Hodge will take on the lead roles of Elyot and Amanda respectively - parts that were originally played by Coward and Gertrude Lawrence when the play premiered in 1930.

The play, which marks the 50th anniversary of Coward's death, will run between August 31 and November 25 at the Ambassadors Theatre in London's West End.

"Ex-spouses Elyot and Amanda are honeymooning with their new partners in the South of France only to find themselves, to their horror, in adjacent hotel rooms. As their passion rekindles, they decide to elope to Amanda's flat in Paris only to resume the vicious slanging match that drove them apart in the first place," reads the synopsis.

Tickets for the play, which is described as "timeless in its witty dissection of sex, marriage and monogamy", can be purchased here from £25.

Havers, who is best known for his portrayal of Lewis Archer in Coronation Street, previously starred in a touring production of the show which was presented through the Nigel Havers Theatre Company, in collaboration with award-winning producer David Pugh.

Previously opening up about his involvement in Havers' theatre company, Pugh said his suggestion to Havers that he start a theatre company was met with a smile.

"My suggestion last year to Nigel to form The Nigel Havers Theatre Company was met with a wry smile. But he warmed to the idea and finally agreed that he would take 18 weeks out each year to tour a play, 'as long as the play is entertaining and, most importantly, ticket prices are accessible to as many people as possible'."
