Coronation Street has revisited the assisted dying storyline with Paul Foreman.

Earlier this week, it appeared that Paul had put aside the idea of an assisted death when his partner Billy Mayhew refused to help him.

Paul ultimately recanted on his request for an assisted death when the time comes and instead proposed marriage to a delighted Billy.

In Wednesday's (July 26) episode, Paul was visibly uneasy as Summer started the search for wedding venues because it was unlikely they'd be able to have a church wedding.

Billy assured Paul that marrying him was what he truly wanted, no matter where the ceremony took place. Later, Paul introduced his support group leader Shelly and her PA Cags to his mum and fiancée.

The vicar privately shared with Shelly that he appreciated her support because Paul had recently gone through "a phase" of looking into assisted dying.

"Fortunately, he's had a change of heart," he told Shelly.

Shelly explained that people react in "lots of ways" to learning they have Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and that wanting to pursue assisted dying isn't always just "a phase".

Once Paul returned to the table with Bernie and Billy excused himself, Shelly took a moment to confide in her new friend about what he'd been discussing with his partner.

While Paul played it off as simply "a moment of madness", Shelly assured him: "Call me if there's anything you want to talk about. I mean it. Even if it is just 'a moment of madness'."

Paul played it off to his mum Bernie that Shelly's use of the phrase "a moment of madness" was just a figure of speech, not mentioning anything about assisted death research.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
