Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce teases new romance story for Todd

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce has teased that his character Todd Grimshaw might get a new love interest soon.

Todd tried to win back ex Billy Mayhew by breaking up his relationship with Paul Foreman when he returned to the Cobbles, but the character eventually backed off from that, leaving the door open for a romance of his own.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Pierce said: "It's been good for him to have some time largely single after breaking up Billy and Paul, but it would be interesting to explore.

"I think there might be a possible love interest on the horizon for Todd. That would be good new ground for me to explore, too!"

When asked if he could see a reunion between Billy and Todd, Pierce said: "As an actor, I adore Daniel Brocklebank [so] from a personal perspective, I'd love to continue working closely with him. I love working together even as antagonists!

"As long-term characters with shared histories you tend to be kept in the same orbit. It may come back around but I don't know. I love being surprised by what they give us."

What is more likely, and perhaps more dramatically interesting, is Todd being a pillar of support for Billy and Paul following the latter's diagnosis with motor neurone disease.

"There's hope for a genuine friendship to blossom between all three of them, and for Todd to offer support and rebuild trust," Pierce explained. "It's a storyline that can make everybody realise there are bigger issues than romantic rivalries."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
